AUGUST  14TH,

Speaker, Laura Piland from Slice of Pi Quilts. The topic of her presentation will be Story Books Quilts.
https://www.sliceofpiquilts.com/

I'm Laura! I'm a quilter, pattern designer, and homeschooling mom of three boys. I'm also an ex-math teacher - and with a last name like Piland - there's a strong love of pi in our house! I'd love for you to take a look around and leave a comment so I can get to know you! Let's sew something together!

Have you ever spotted a quilt in the illustration of a children's book? Bedtime stories in our house often include, "Mom, look! A quilt!" One day, I began to wonder if those quilts could be created in real life and transform story time into something more. I began stitching past the boys' bedtime bringing our favorite stories to life.

Storybook Quilts was born from those moments. It's part quilting book, part love letter to children's literature, and wholly inspired by the magical intersection of real and make believe. The book has patterns for 14 quilts from beloved picture books.

SEPTEMBER 8TH.Renee Den Beste from My Best Quilt Co., will speak on Scrap Happens. She is a pattern designer at My Best Quilt Co and she designs the patterns for Ticket to Quilt, a virtual shop hop. She started quilting when a friend gifted her with quilting supplies. Like so many quilters, once she started, she was hooked. Sitting at her sewing machine the cares of the day disappear!

Not long after she started quilting, she dabbled in writing patterns when she couldn’t find what she was looking for or an idea struck her. Her quilt friends convinced her to share her love of quilting and designs with the world, hence the birth of My Beste Quilt Co. , https://mybestequiltco.com/

www.canuckquilterdesigns.com

How do you take a pattern and create a quilt that is uniquely yours? Using my own quilt designs, we will explore how different choices alter the look and feel of a quilt. Backgrounds, borders, bindings and backs are often considered secondary to the block designs, but they have a significant impact on the finished quilt. I’ll share tips on fabric selection as well as ways to tweak a pattern and even mix and match elements from different patterns. Let’s learn to look at those patterns with new eyes!

Joanne Kerton, is a proud Canadian that currently resides in Iowa. She followed her astronomer husband's job here. Happily, quilting is portable so she could follow her dreams while he explores the stars.
