June Meeting:

One of the world’s foremost quilt designers, Judy Martin has long sought to bridge the gap between the traditional and modern. In the wake of the Bicentennial Quilt Revival, Judy was an enthusiastic proponent of machine piecing and helped bring pattern presentation into the modern era. Her work remains rooted in the shapes and styles of traditional quilts but feels fresh and original. Judy’s inventive plays on Log Cabin and Lone Star Quilts—each the subject of multiple books and a dazzling array of variations—have become two of her hallmarks. Over the course of her prolific four-decade career, Judy has inspired and empowered quilters to do their best work.

March 14th - "Make it your own"

Presented by: Joanne Kerton

From: Canuck QuilterDesigns

www.canuckquilterdesigns.com

How do you take a pattern and create a quilt that is uniquely yours? Using my own quilt designs, we will explore how different choices alter the look and feel of a quilt. Backgrounds, borders, bindings and backs are often considered secondary to the block designs, but they have a significant impact on the finished quilt. I’ll share tips on fabric selection as well as ways to tweak a pattern and even mix and match elements from different patterns. Let’s learn to look at those patterns with new eyes!

Joanne Kerton, is a proud Canadian that currently resides in Iowa. She followed her astronomer husband's job here. Happily, quilting is portable so she could follow her dreams while he explores the stars.

April 11th - "I Love Chocolate"

Presented by: Merrie Ford

From: Brown Town Quilts

https://browntownquilts.com

The presentation, "I LOVE CHOCOLATE" showcases the color Brown in a wide variety of quilts. Merrie talks about why we are attracted to certain colors and discuss ways to challenge ourselves as quilters to see colors in fresh ways. The Program is personal, fun & informative, and consists of both slides and a trunk show.

While attending a color workshop in 2017, the attendees were asked to share their least favorite (or most challenging) color to work with. Merrrie was surprised as person after person said "Brown"!   Probably 80% of the group considered MY favorite color to be difficult to work with!

Presented by: Laura Piland

From: Slice of Pi Quilts

www.sliceofpiquilts.com

Laura Piland is a quilter, pattern designer, and homeschooling mom of three boys. She’s also an ex-math teacher - and with a last name like Piland - there's a strong love of pi in her house!

Quilting is to Laura what fishing is to her husband. It keeps her sane. She also loves creating a tangible thing that will provide joy and warmth to others. Most work as a mother and teacher is intangible, so she likes that quilting results in something to show for the work put in.

She started Slice of Pi Quilts in 2016 after many requests for patterns for the quilts she was creating. You can find all of her patterns in both digital and professionally printed booklets in my Etsy shop https://www.etsy.com/shop/SliceofPiQuilts

This is her “Exploding Heart” quilt pattern.
